Research Topic: Missing Values in Genomic Data

Supervisors: Prof Dave Westhead, Dr Luisa Cutillo

About Bailey: I received my BSc in Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics from the University of Edinburgh (2017-2021), and am now part of the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence for Medical Diagnosis and Care at Leeds, working on my PhD.

Project description: High throughput technologies such as Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-Seq) enable transcriptome-wide profiling of gene expression at the single-cell resolution in thousands of cells in parallel. However, this data can suffer 'zero-inflation', in which a larger-than-expected proportion of genes are detected as being unexpressed. This can inhibit the utility of the data if left unaddressed - this project entails the analysis and creation of methods for addressing this problem.
